GRIT has its origins in the Nordic financial markets of the late 1980s, when the founding team began operating in the Stockholm options market. In the early 1990s, we moved to Frankfurt, conducting options market-making across European exchanges while simultaneously developing systematic investment strategies.

Following relocation to Finland in the late 1990s, we continued to develop and manage systematic strategies, acquiring our own fund management company in 2005. Over several decades, we managed investment vehicles across multiple jurisdictions, including Germany and offshore jurisdictions.

Proprietary technology has been central to our operations since the beginning. Unable to source adequate off-the-shelf solutions in the early years, we developed our own fund management platform, a practice that continues to the present day. This approach enables rapid response to what managers actually need when they need it and draws on our direct experience as investment managers.

Then came 2014 and a panel discussion in Stockholm. Two exchanges, a bank, and us. The AIFM directive had just landed, and the compliance burden was crushing. We made the case plainly: investment managers want to buy cheap, sell expensive, and talk to investors. Can't someone just handle the rest? The other panelists shrugged. Sorry, you’re on your own.

We flew home and started building. In 2017, we onboarded our first external fund manager. Demand in Finland was immediate. By 2020, it was our core business. Today GRIT Fund Management Company is a FIN-FSA supervised third-party super ManCo with authorizations to manage both UCITS and AIFs. Built by portfolio managers, run on technology we wrote ourselves, for managers who'd rather be managing.
